Cotopaxi Volcano hike to the Glacier and Mountain Biking
Cotopaxi National Park tour is an exiting day which begins with spectacular views of the Andean landscape in the Avenue of the Volcanoes on your way to Cotopaxi volcano. Once inside the National Park your shuttle van will take you through more stunning scenary as you go up the mountains to the parking area. From the parking area you will hike up to the refuge (the lodge which is being built) which is located at an elevation of 4800 m / 15,748 ft.
You will have time to rest here at the refuge. Then you will continue with the 2nd part of the hike up the volcano. The 2nd part of the hike will take you up to where the glaciers begin to melt and turn to ice water running down the volcano. This happens at an altitude of 5000 m / 16,404 ft. This a great place for photos on the glacier the view looking down. From the parking location to the glacier takes about 2 hour of hiking. It is also about the going down the volcano to parking area for a round trip of approximately 4 hours.
On the return trek down, you will continue down to the parking area. At this point you will have the opportunity to ride a mountain bike down the step road for miles finally reaching the Limpiopungo Lagoon. The shuttle van will meet you at the lagoon. The van will take you to the Chuquiragua Lodge for a well deserved lunch late lunch. Then you will take the shuttle van back to Quito.
